Nine

I cannot wait until November!!!! This November marks the release of the movie Nine, a new musical movie by Rob Marshall - - - the man who brought Chicago from the stage to the big screen. I found out about the movie while watching Barefoot Contessa, my favorite Food Network show. Ina Garten treated Rob Marshall to some of her tasty treats while he edited this upcoming film.

It looks amazing. Let's start with the cast....Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Sofia Loren, and Judy Dench. Not a shabby bunch, huh?!?!

Crack

I've said it before, I'll say it again....Bravo TV is crack. I am pretty sure they can do no wrong. I've recently gotten into two of their newer shows and I cannot pull myself away.




First, I'll start with NYC Prep. I was a bit behind on this one....but am fully caught up thanks to a marathon session. I cannot believe my eyes with this one....a peek into the lives of NYC prep school teenagers. Do these kids not have parents? They act as if they are in their 30s. They have dinner parties. They travel to Palm Beach, Mexico, and places in between with no parents in site. They drink at restaurants - and they are 16 - 18. I mean, I'm not saying that's never been done before (think Cremona's in Dallas).....but um this is on TV. The shopping and the clothes! Stylists for teenagers! And the casual sex talk. I cannot believe my eyes and ears. But thanks to Bravo I have been sucked in and cannot get enough. So far PC is my favorite. Can't wait to see what the pompus ass does next.




Bravo has also sucked me into their newest show Miami Social. Holy Cow. Again with the crack. I just don't understand where they find these people....all with sooooo much money, with killer bods, and waaaaaay to much time on their hands. One of the characters may look familiar - Katrina - she was on the first season of The Apprentice. There has only been one episode, so not much to report - - - but one was enough to get me hooked. DVR is officially set.






And then there's the History Channel. I love me some History Channel. I have been known to easily get sucked into an all day marathon about past Presidents, the Civil War, the mob, the prohibition, and more. It's all faciniating!






They recently wrapped up a series called Expedition Africa. It was amazing. A Mark Burnett production (you know - the Survivor guy)....so you know it's done right. Four explorers in Africa trekking across Tanzania, following in the exact path and footsteps of past explorers Henry Stanley and David Livingstone. Lions, crocks, snakes, torrential rains, swamps, 110 degree heat, personality conflicts, malaria, and more. What's not to love. I finished watching the season just this morning with goose bumps and tears. Not enough to make me want to trek across Africa, but enough to get me hooked on the show. You should definitely check it out on reruns.




I usually dread summer television....but thanks to these three shows I think I'll muddle through just fine. Now if I could only get some Jeff Lewis and Flipping Out, I'd be one happy camper!

CCAW CCAW

That's the battle cry of the Mean Green...those mighy Eagles of the University of North Texas. Right?! Not all of my memories of UNT are fond ones, but I am grateful for the friendships that I made there and that they have lasted through so many years.

For ten years now six of my girl friends from those college days have been getting together every summer for a weekend of fun. This year was no exception as our group gathered in Austin. Three of us live here in Austin, Shelly flew in from New York, Mallory from Dallas, and Shay from Florida. The moment we get together it's as if no time has passed.

Friday night we kicked things off with a bang with a delicious dinner at Uchi. When there is celebrating to do, Uchi is the place to do it. Yummy, yummy sushi and flowing champagne made for a perfect meal for the six of us.

After dinner that night we ventured over to Ego's so these girls can see what all the fuss is about. I'm not sure they'll say it's their favorite bar, but I know one thing....my girls love a stage, so I knew they'd take to my Ego's. Shelly was the lead off hitter and took to the stage with a little Pour Some Sugar on Me. Mal brought things down a level with one of our fave's from John Denver. I serenaded Aimee with "our" song....Keep On Loving You. And Wendy finished out our first round of singing with a tune by The Toadies. Aimee stayed on the bench that night due to a sore throat and a shortage of that liquid courage.

Saturday we rose early (for me) and headed out to Lakeway where we spent the day in the pool at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. The pool was fabulous and a great place for us to beat the heat. We literally sat in the pool for hours and hours...sipping bloody marys, catching up, and enjoying each others company. That night we opted for a low key tex-mex dinner and more fun back in the room. We stayed up late solving the world's problems and doing what girls do best. As always, I had an amazing time with my girls. We have so much fun together. We laugh and laugh and laugh.

You have the UNT girls weekend to thank for the return of the blog and you also have Mallory to thank for being the inspiration for the first ever quote list (back in June of 2007)....so it is fitting that we bring the quote list back in celebration of the UNT girls. Of course, Mallory steals the show once again!

Two Month Recap

So, yeah....I know, it's been a while. Jeez....give a girl a break. Well, I've had enough of all the hate mail and dirty looks, so I figured I better post...stat. Since I typically do a weekend recap, I figured I better at least bring you up to speed on the past couple of months. before I recap my weekend. And since I've been non-stop...this probably won't be the shortest entry I've ever done.

MAY
May is really to blame for this summer slump. You see, my work's major fundraiser is typically held in early May....thus keeping me busy. The event, Mother's Day weekend, went off without a hitch....even though we were shy of our fundraising goal. My parents came into town for the big event and lots of friends showed their support, so not all was lost. Click here if you want to see pics from my event.

After the big event I headed off to Cozumel in later May to rest and recuperate with Ashley and my mom. I'd never been to Cozumel and just loved it. The beaches and ocean were beautiful. I loved our hotel the Aura Cozumel Wyndham Grand Bay, a boutique, all-inclusive hotel owned by the Wyndham. It was really nice. I highly recommend staying there. The three of us basked in the sun for four days and pretty much ate our weight in lobster. Check out our pics from sunny Cozumel.

JUNE
Early June was our Karaoke Showtunes Party. We cooked this little shin dig up a few months back and it did not disappoint. The party was at Austin Karaoke and the theme was showtunes and musicals. Everyone came dressed as a character from a musical. Costumes were in full effect representing: Chicago, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Footloose, The Wizard of Oz, South Pacific, South Pacific, High School Musical, Cats, and Moulin Rouge. In June we also....celebrated Ted's birthday at Ego's, had a game night at Ashley's, and had friends in from Fort Worth.

The end of June I headed out with my family for our 2nd Annual Evans/Edgar Big Chill vacation. On the way to Florida, we stopped in New Orleans to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. We did it up big....in true Edgar style...as introduced Perry to one of our family's favorite cities. Saturday night we got a sitter for Miss P and the "adults" celebrated with a gluttonous dinner at Galatoire's. The next morning was Father's Day, so we celebrated over brunch at Brennan's. After Brennan's we were Florida bound. Check out our pics from the Big Easy.

From the Big Easy we continued our trek east arriving in Rosemary Beach, Florida where we met up with the Evans family (my brother's in-laws). We settled into our house and began the 2nd Annual Edgar/Evans Big Chill. There we had a week of sunnin' and funnin'. Rosemary Beach is about 30 miles south of Destin on the Gulf Coast. It has beautiful white sandy beaches and great local fare. Mojitos, group, and grits galore! Another great family vacation. Check out all our fun.

JULY

May and June were jam packed with fun and July is off to a pretty good start. After my family vacation I enjoyed a short re-entry work week having Friday, July 3rd off in observance of Independence Day. The big day was celebrated with a shrimp boil party at the Dunlap's with all the kiddos followed by an evening on the stage at Ego's with the "adults." So that's where I've been. Whew. I'm exhausted just recapping it.

This past weekend was my annual college girl's weekend. Since it is so fresh and will bring back the quote list, I'll wait until tomorrow to give this past weekend it's proper respect.
