"Fortune" cookies?
When did fortune cookies become so politically correct? Remember when fortune cookies actually used to tell you your fortune??? Isn't telling you your future and fortune actually the defining factor of a fortune cookie??? As I broke open my fortune cookie last night at dinner and read my "fortune", I was so disappointed. No..."the man of your dreams is just around the corner" or " your patience will be rewarded sooner or later ", but I got a ever so sappy..."others recognize your sweet nature." Sweet nature my ass...when did these little suckers become so touchy feely? Give me the goods cookie...tell me my fortune and future. I need more from you little fortune cookie...is that too much to ask?!?!

The End of an Era
It is a sad day for Camp Longhorners everywhere....as we mourn the loss of camp patriarch, Tex Robertson. I have such fond and vivid memories of Tex. He was always smiling, always knew your name, and seemed like a grandfather to just about everyone at camp. For the five years I spent at Camp Longhorn as a camper I awoke each morning to his distinct and cheerful voice...."rise and shine, be up and about." I will forever remember his V-Day shirts, swimming in his pool, blowdrying my hair via his airconditioner, his love for animals, and his smile. Camp Longhorn, and the world, has lost a great man. I somehow thought that Tex would live forever...I guess for Camp Longhorners everywhere...he will. Attawaytogo, Tex!!!Click here to read an article about Tex in today’s the Dallas Morning News. There are also great pictures and memories posted on the Camp Longhorn website.

Why Men Shouldn't Skydive Naked
When the cat's away...
Saturday night was a girl's night out in Austin. Husbands were out of town, so Lizzy coordinated her "smells like Ford is out of town" weekend...and since the rest of us really need very little prodding for an evening on the town we joined in! Wendy, Leigh, and I met at Lizzy, Katie, and Mary Miles at the Four Seasons bar (oh how I love the Four Seasons) for a little pre-dinner cocktail.
We met the rest of our gang (Jenny, Lisa, Christy, and Tami) downtown at Kenichi for some yummy yummy sushi (and more cocktails). I had mixed feelings about going to Kenichi...I am a hard core Uchi girl and felt a little uneasy about Kenichi over Uchi...but Keneichi takes reservations so Kenichi it was. And, it was really great. Not Uchi...but great. I can't stop thinking about that Austin style yellowtail sashimi and the spicy edemame.
After dinner, we ventured over to the Belmont for some rooftop cocktails and chit chat for a hour or so. Then we found a great new bar to hang out at...Star Bar (do you sense the sarcasm here???)...where we met up with Ted, Caroline, and John. The hunger pangs started setting in about 11, so Mary Miles wrangled up some somewhat sketchy snacks for the group...but it didn't quite do the trick so some of our friend bailed out early.
The remaining crew...Wendy, Ted, Caroline, and John headed downtown to 311 for a little dancing and alot of sweating! I always love a little 311, but oh how I feel old when I'm there. And, to top it off my feet still hurt today from my great new shoes I just had to wear on Saturday night.
Just another rock star evening in Austin.

Baby Watch 2007
The due date is tomorrow, but we've been on pins and needles with a couple of false alarms. In fact, I've made the trek up I-35 twice now with no baby!!! It seems this baby is as stubborn as its stubborn (yet darling) father.
They had a doctors appointment this afternoon complete with their thousandth sonogram…and it was determined that they will induce on Thursday morning (pending anything eventful over the next few days…which seems unlikely).
So, on Wednesday evening I’ll be headed to big D once again, but this time will get to meet my little niece or nephew. (My bet is on nephew by the way). Keep you posted!
Re: Backstreet's Back Alright
Is there a better way to start a Monday morning than awaking to Nick and Howie from the Backstreet Boys on the radio?!?! Nick and Howie paid a visit to the Kidd Kraddick studios in Dallas (thank God for syndication) this morning to spill the beans about their new album, Kevin's departure from the group and more. If you didn't set your alarm this morning to hear it, you can click here to listen to the interview. Also, be sure to visit their website to hear the new single Inconsolable (due on a radio near you 8/27)! I lub it already and can't wait for the video!!! Let the obsession begin (again)!!!

Book Report

Anyway, back to the book. What a great book this is. I loved it. (Thanks Ash.)
Eat, Pray, Love is a memoir of self-discovery, spiritual insight, and a search for finding the balance between pleasure and faith. The book follows Elizabeth through a year abroad. Following a heartbreaking divorce and a bout with depression, Elizabeth finds herself in Italy for the pursuit of pleasure. Is there a better place on earth for the pursuit of pleasure??? You know food, wine, beauty, shopping, food, wine, etc, etc. After 3 months in Italy she travels to India to find her faith in an Ashram where she begins her day at 3:30 in the morning with prayer and song. Following her time in India, she ends her year of travel in Bali. Beautiful Bali. I have never been to Bali, but it has long been on my list of "things to do." The book actually gives a great history of Bali and the culture there. Her trip to Indonesia was about the pursuit of balance...the balance between pleasure and devotion.
One of my favorite passages comes near the end of the book, during her stay in Bali...
"...people universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will maybe descend upon you like fine weather if you're fortunate enough. But that's not how happiness works. Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon in, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it. If you don't, you will leak away your innate contentment. It's easy enough to pray when you're in distress but continuing to pray even when your crisis has passedis like a sealing process, helping your soul hold tight to its good attainment."
Another pair for my collection...

Tetris Time
I'd like to send a shout out to Caroline Curtis today for helping me completely bloww off my morning. Last night (at Sushi and Champage) she introduced me to online free Tetris! Now, I'm not much of a video game girl, but I heart Tetris. I love the old school, original Nintendo version. I have vivid memories of playing it at Suzanne Norvell's house waaaayyyy back in middle school on Friday nights...what a rager, right?!?!? So anyway, spent my morning playing online Tetris. This is the perfect game for my OCD self....thanks Caroline.

Oh my aching....
...ass, arms, abs, legs, etc, etc, etc. I started working out with my trainer, Steph, again this week and oh how I feel it. I have such mixed emotions about this...on the one hand I'm glad to be back in the saddle having not worked out with Steph since May, but on the other hand...why would I intentionally inflict such pain on myself...and you all know how I hate to sweat. But, Steph is fabulous and she comes and trains you in your own house so you never even have to go anywhere. I love that. She was also just named one of Austin's 10 most fit in Austin Fit Magazine. Hooray for Steph! Maybe that'll be me some day...yeah right! So, I'm a whole two days back in the game and I already ache all over. But hey, look at the brightside...maybe I can actually win one of our infamous "plank offs" one day. Watch out Lizzy, Ash, and Teddy...you are going down!!!
Re: Plunger Ponders
When I walked out to my car this morning I found that I had been plungered! It seems my neighbors returned my plunger by sticking it to the hood of my car. Interesting. Not sure if it's my old one or a new replacement and I won't be inspecting it to find out.

Plunger Ponders

(1) Is that the kind of thing you borrow from someone???? I'm not sure it is. I mean...there is a little convenience store just down the street. Wouldn't you rather just run down there and buy a plunger anonymously like the rest of us do than ring your neighbors door bell and claim that you need it to help "drain your shower"?
Hmmmm...so much to ponder on this simple household item.

Every rose has its thorn
One of my favorite things about summer is all the trash on tv!!! One such piece of trash that I am totally addicted to is Bret Michael's Rock of Love. Have you seen this train wreck? If you haven't...well put the car in park and get ready to gawk! This show is crack!Bret Michael's is so gross, but cute...and sweet, but a total hooker. And these girls!!!! Where in the world did they get these girls? I mean...I am as big a Poison fan as the next guy, but win a chance to "date" Bret Michael's...are you kidding me?!?!?! I think the outfits these girls come up with take the cake for me. I mean...where do you even buy outfits like these?
I do, however, just love how sensitive old Bret is...in this week's episode he took the high road and let Rodeo (one of my most fav disasters on the show) "with dignity." Dignity??? Doesn't actually appearing on the show wipe out any dignity that you may have had to begin with?!?! Another of my favorite oh so sensitive moments by Bret is when he said...and I quote..."I've always had a special place in my heart for dancers." And yes my friends, by dancers he does mean the kind that come with a pair of stilettos and a pole. Awwwww Bret...what a guy!
VH1 or bust people...I'm telling you...you won't regret it!

Beads and Baubles

I believe in a thing called love
A very special thank you to Michael Levy who has permanently implanted this song in my head. I have now (after feeling very inadequate for several weeks now) purchased this song on iTunes and was also inspired to check out the video…which evidentially was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video in 2004 but sadly...it lost. I mean...the nerve.
Just another night at the Round Table...
Noodle Soup...
Evidentially the blogging world is considering the formation of a labor union. I...for the record...could give a rats ass about this but found the accompanying article about blogging very funny and thought I would share with "all" my Leigh Leigh Land visitors. Just as a tease....my fav comment in the article is this...
“Blogging is very intense — physically, mentally,” she (Kirsten Burgard) said. “You’re constantly scanning for news. You’re constantly trying to come up with information that you think will mobilize your readers. In the meantime, you’re sitting at a computer and your ass is getting wider and your arm and neck and shoulder are wearing out because you’re constantly using a mouse.”
Now...don't you all feel "mobilized"?!?!?!? Hahahaha.

Some Filipino physical fitness
A lingering question in my mind these days is….why is Philippines spelled with a “ph” and Filipino spelled with an “f”? In my quest to get to the bottom of this, I have enlisted the brilliant minds of some of my friends. One such guru, Patrick, came across this oh so fabulouso video of how the warden at a prison in the Philippines "takes a novel approach to inmate physical fitness and discipline." And since who doesn't love a good rendition of Thriller....I thought this was definitely blog worthy today! Thanks Patrick.
